Dr. Shosid is here to help you navigate
your mental health.

Medication Management

After the initial consultation appointment, if a patient is prescribed medication, he or she will continue to be seen for medication management. Medication management appointments are usually scheduled for 30 minutes. These appointments are needed to monitor potential side effects and efficacy of the prescribed medications. Vital signs and growth will be monitored when clinically appropriate. After the initial consultation a medication management appointment is typically scheduled for one month out. Once an adult patient is stable on their medications, follow-ups will be conducted quarterly or less frequently, if clinically appropriate. Child or adolescent patients will generally be seen quarterly once stable on their medications.

Pharmacogenetic Testing

Dr. Shosid is able to provide genetic testing if appropriate for you or your child. Genetic testing provides information about how your body metabolizes certain type of medications, including antidepressants, anti-anxiety medications, ADHD, mood stabilizers and antipsychotics. This information can help determine the correct dose range for the patient, which can help minimize side effects while maximizing effectiveness. Additionally, it can provide information regarding what class of medication may work best for you and expedite the process of finding the right medication for you. Genetic testing samples are easily obtained in the office via check swab. A copy of your testing will be provided when you meet with Dr. Shosid to review the results. Please see the following links to obtain more information regarding genetic testing. Payment for testing is collected by a third party and not in the office, though our practice does charge a small administrative fee for processing, samples and paperwork. Fees are capped for patients with commercial insurance and Tempus offers a sliding scale depending on income which is determined prior to testing.

Psychotherapy

Dr. Shosid occasionally sees patients in her practice for psychotherapy, in addition to medication management, but will often refer out to other mental health professionals in the community that are best suited to meet your specific needs. She will discuss the various types of psychotherapies available and will help provide referrals, collaborating with the other providers to whom she refers. If you prefer to see a therapist in your network, Dr. Shosid will review your provider list to see if she can provide a referral.

IVA+Plus: Integrated Visual and Auditory Continuous Performance Test

The IVA+Plus is a combined auditory and visual computerized continuous performance test available for ages 6 years and above. The test provides objective data about the ability of the patient to concentrate and to avoid making impulsive errors. The test takes approximately 30 minutes to administer and measures attention and impulsivity in both the auditory and visual realms. The IVA+Plus can provide an additional data point in a comprehensive evaluation of ADHD/ADD. Additionally, a patient’s response to medication can be objectively measured when the IVA+Plus is administered while the patient is on medication and the dose optimally titrated.
