Functional Psychiatry Evaluation

Dr. Shosid is here to help you navigate
your mental health.

Although Dr. Shosid does incorporate functional psychiatry principles into her traditional psychiatry practice, it is highly recommended that you schedule a functional consultation and obtain the suggested lab work in order for this model to be most successful. It is essential to complete a thorough battery of testing in order to ideally implement the Functional model.

All new patient paperwork is required before an appointment can be made. If recent lab testing or psychiatric records are available, please provide those prior to the consultation.

Once your paperwork is received, an appointment time for an initial 90 min clinical consultation with  Dr. Shosid can be scheduled. Paperwork is available here.

Testing

After the initial consultation appointment, Dr Shosid will order all necessary testing through Quest Labs and the RUPA HEALTH platform. The Quest Labs testing will often be covered by insurance.

Testing will vary according to each patient’s individual requirements and is done through various specialty labs, including DHA Labs, Genova Diagnostics and/or Mosaic, among others. Unfortunately, these Functional tests are not typically covered by insurance but are essential to a functional work up. Each test ranges in price from $130 to $430.

If medication is part of your treatment regimen then specific genetic testing looking at various genetic markers and medication metabolism might be recommended. Dr. Shosid uses Genesight and Tempus for this type of genetic testing and samples can be obtained at the time of the initial consultation or collection kits can be mailed to you directly. This type of genetic testing may be covered by your insurance.

Pricing for lab tests is determined by the individual labs. The labs will contact you to discuss pricing. They will provide cash pricing and will discuss insurance coverage. Dr Shosid does not have any financial ties to the labs and uses those she believes provide the highest standards available.

Fees

The Functional Evaluation fee is $2000 and does not include the cost of the testing. Included is the initial 90 minute clinical psychiatric consultation appointment as well as the administrative fees involved in ordering and reviewing testing.  Also included in the fee is a 60 minute post-testing appointment, where upon results will be reviewed, functional and lifestyle recommendations discussed, and referrals provided, if appropriate. However, given the complexity of the testing, an additional appointment might be required to complete the review.

Dr Shosid is available for continued follow up care if desired. Follow up appointments are billed at $350 for a 30 minute follow up appointment and $650 for a 60 minute appointment. If medication management is part of your treatment plan medication, management appointments will be combined with implementation of functional recommendations.

Functional Psychiatry is ultimately a model of hope in which we work towards remission and recovery. It requires both a financial  commitment to cover the cost of a thorough evaluation and the necessary testing  and a willingness to follow recommendations. Dr. Shosid firmly believes it is worth the time and effort to protect your mental health, brain health and well being.

Functional Psychiatry Referrals & Coaching

If appropriate, referrals to a nutritionist or functional medicine practitioner in the community will be provided.  If an underlying medical condition is revealed that is outside of Dr. Shosid’s expertise, referrals would be made to your primary care provider and/or gynecologist for collaboration. Many patients benefit from their work with a therapist, and patients can continue working with their own therapist, or Dr. Shosid is able provide referrals as well.

Dr. Shosid recommends working with a Functional Health Coach to help you implement the recommendations from the Functional Evaluation.

Lifestyle changes are often necessary and may include improving fitness and sleep routines, nutrition, avoiding toxins, life work balance, enhancing interpersonal connections, and much more. As part of the evaluation, specific recommendations will be made regarding supplements, vitamins, minerals and other nutraceuticals. Initially this can be confusing and seem overwhelming. A Functional Coach can help get you started and help you stay on the path to recovery. They can help to hold you accountable and assure the you are implementing the recommendations correctly.

If you are interested in connecting with a Functional Coach, Dr. Shosid is able to provide referrals.
